Professional Violas
The timbre of a professional viola is unique and unmistakable, neither comparable to an alto cello nor to a bass violin . I like to call it “the bittersweet timbre”, immediately recognizable when the viola has a solo in a quartet. Having worked as a high-level professional violist for many years before dedicating myself to violin making, I have developed a refined acoustic sensitivity, thanks to experience with the best instruments and teachers, which has allowed me to deepen my knowledge of the sound of the viola. This sound must be deep and rich in harmonics, capable of crossing a concert hall without dispersing into the intermediate register. However, the comfort of playing always remains my main concern.
The various proportional “gimmicks” adopted today by many luthiers, or the choice of wider models in a vain attempt to compensate for the limited length, often end up creating intonation problems or, even worse, articulation problems for violists. After many years of building violas of all sizes and shapes, I have developed my own personal models that make playing this magnificent instrument comfortable and easy, with an unmistakable tone recognized among thousands.
In my activity as a luthier , I am committed to respecting the artisan tradition, while introducing innovations that improve the quality and playability of the instruments. Every viola I build is the result of a careful study of proportions, materials and manufacturing techniques. I use the highest quality woods, carefully selected for their acoustic characteristics and aesthetic beauty. The varnish, applied using traditional methods, gives the wood an elegant and long-lasting finish, enhancing the sonic qualities of the instrument.
Furthermore, I work closely with musicians, listening to their needs and preferences, to create violas that perfectly meet their expectations. I firmly believe that constant dialogue with violists is essential to continually perfect my instruments. Every feedback received is an opportunity to improve and to offer a product that not only meets, but exceeds the expectations of the player.
The ultimate goal is to create violas that inspire musicians, instruments that not only facilitate technical performance, but also allow one to best express one’s musicality. My passion for the viola and my dedication to violin making are reflected in every detail of my creations, from the choice of wood to the final finish. Each viola is a combination of art and science, designed to last over time and to accompany the musician in every performance.
With my experience and commitment, I continue to contribute to the tradition of violin making, creating instruments that embody the very essence of music. Each viola is a unique work, designed to resonate in the hands of musicians and to excite the public, thus perpetuating the enchantment and magic of music.
