Yael Rosenblum

I began my musical career as a professional violist and violinist, graduating from the Israel Arts and Science Academy in Jerusalem in 1996. Subsequently, I obtained a diploma in violin making from the international school of Cremona and completed the specialization course in baroque instruments. This experience of mine as a musician has allowed me to acquire in-depth knowledge of stringed instruments. For twenty years I have been building instruments chosen by the first parts of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, La Scala in Milan, Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Opera of Florence , the American Ballet Theatre, the Cremona Quartet and many other extraordinary musicians around the world. I received particular appreciation from Maestro Zubin Mehta, who, upon hearing my violin, stated that «unlike other modern instruments, those of Yael Rosenblum recall the true ancient Italian sound»

Where I appeared

In Northern Italy one of the most delicate crafts has survived both industrialization and globalization. The hand-built violin is a huge success for the city of Cremona, where past and present comes together in a lucrative niche business. Nordea Invest magazine travelled to the small town to find out how 30 pieces of wood can be worth millions. We met the 32-year-old Israeli violin maker Yael Rosenblum.

When Yael Rosenblum greeted me, she offered to wash her hands, which were covered with black shavings. “This is ebony. You don’t want this on your hands,” she said. Sixteen years ago, Ms. Rosenblum gave up a career as a professional violinist in Israel and moved to Cremona to study violin-making. Professionals around the world play her violins, violas and cellos; one of her first instruments is played regularly at La Scala…
